WHAT IS IT?
-----------
URL Organizer is a small, fast, simple utility for organizing up to 2,000 URLS
in a more manageable way than either Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator
allow.

DISTRIBUTION
------------
You may distribute this program freely, PROVIDED THAT you distribute only the
ORIGINAL zip archive, containing urlorg.exe, ReadMe.txt and urlList.txt.

LICENCE
-------
Currently, there is no charge for a licence to use URL Organizer (i.e. it is
'freeware'), but you must register your copy (see below).

The author of URL Organizer, Edward Leigh, grants you the right to install and
use URL Organizer on any computer, on condition that you agree to be bound by
the following conditions:
* URL Organizer is licensed, not sold, to you.
* You may not reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble or modify in any way
whatsoever URL Organizer. In particular you may not remove or alter any
copyright notices.
* You may not sell, rent or lease URL Organizer to anyone else.
* URL Organizer is provided 'as is', and you use it entirely at your own risk.
The author expressly disclaims any warranty for URL Organizer. In no event
shall the author be liable for any consequential damages whatsoever (including,
but not limited to, damages for loss of business profits or loss of business
information) arising out of the use of, or the inability to use, URL Organizer.
In any case, the author's liability shall be limited to five UK pounds
sterling.
* This licence agreement is goverened by the laws of England and Wales.
URL Organizer is protected by copyright laws and international copyright
treaties, as well as other intellectual property laws and treaties.

If you do not agree with the stated licence conditions, please do not install
URL Organizer.

INSTALLATION
------------
The main executable, urlorg.exe, can be installed anywhere.

I leave you to create shortcuts to urlorg.exe where you want them.

The sample URL list (and any new URL lists you create) can reside anywhere.
However when you first run URL Organizer, it will look in the directory in
which urlorg.exe resides; if it does not find a file called 'urlList.txt'
there, it will create one.

REGISTRATION
------------
This program is SIVL-compliant shareware (or at the moment, freeware). This
means that, in order to fully-enable the program's functionality, you must
register it with OSoLiS (http://www.osolis.com/). Until registered, the program
will not allow you to add any more URLs to a list once it contains 40. By
registering the program, this limit is lifted to about 2,000 URLs.

To access the OSoLiS registration service, either:
1) Go to 'About URL Organizer' (under the application's System menu - top-left
corner), and click the registration button whilst you are connected to the
   Internet, or
2) Go on the Internet to http://www.osolis.com/en/registration/ and follow the
instructions there. The Program ID of 'URL Organizer 1' is P1.

You will find instructions on OSoLiS's site, but the basic steps are:
a) Set up an account by registering your contact details
b) 'Buy' a license for URL Organizer (Program ID: P1)
c) Download a copy of your Personal License Register
d) Move the License Register to the active Windows directory (usually
C:\WINDOWS). If you're not sure where to put the License Register, run URL
Organizer and check 'About URL Organizer'.

If URL Organizer doesn't recognize that it is registered, please check 'About
URL Organizer' to see what is wrong. If you still don't have any joy, please
let me know what URL Organizer is saying is wrong.

TIPS
----
You can access 'Preferences' under the application's system menu, which is
accessed by clicking on the icon at the top-left corner of the application
window.

URL Organizer supports dragging and dropping plain text URLs, hyperlinks and
Internet shortcuts onto the application window.

In 'organize' mode, you can re-arrange items within any of the list windows by
dragging and dropping, but to move a URL or subcategory from one 'branch' of
the list to another:
1) select the URL or subcategory you want to move
2) press the 'Mark' button
3) select the category or subcategory under which you now want the marked
   item(s) to be listed
4) press the 'Move' button
The process is similar to cutting and pasting, but you won't find you've
accidentally lost anything by cutting it.

You can access a URL list on a network volume using a network address of the
form '\\machine\drive\...'.

Should you want to change the titles of the browsers available (e.g. the
generic 'Other'), or the titles of the URL lists, you can do this quite simply
using RegEdit ('Start Menu' -> 'Run' -> Type 'regedit' -> 'OK'):
1) Open Key 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/OSoLiS/URLOrganizer/1.0/'
2) Open Subkey 'browserName' or 'listName'
3) Select the number corresponding to the title you want to change
4) Choose menu Edit->Modify
5) Modify title
NOTE: YOU DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!

You can edit the URL list file quite simply using a text editor. You must stick
to the labelling convention used, which will be apparent if you examine the
example URL list supplied. Use tabs to separate items; indentations are
optional. The numbers following some URLs represent 'last visited' times. These
are added automatically.

KNOWN PROBLEMS
--------------
If using Internet Explorer, you may sometimes find that the 'Fetch URL'
function retrieves the URL from a window that is not actually frontmost. Any
Window that was created by URL Organizer using the 'New Window' option is
always treated by Internet Explorer as being 'in front' of all others. I've not
worked out a way round this yet.

If you find any problems, such as URL Organizer crashing, or you find some
aspect of the user interface unintuitive or plain irritating, please let me
know: e-mail urlorg@osolis.com. Thanks.

PLANS
-----
Version 2 is nearing completion. It will be released as shareware within the
next few months. New features include:
  - Facility to import/export Internet Explorer shortcuts and
    Netscape bookmarks
  - Installer/deinstaller
  - URL lists and Web browsers are switchable from the main screen
  - Easier configuration of URL lists and Web browsers
  - Alternative 'compact' URL selector window
  - Application launcher (i.e. you'll be able to use URL Organizer
to store shortcuts to launch any applications)
